Marc at Chateau d'UsséWe were up and out of the campground with a quick stop for pictures of Château d’Ussé (pic on the left). We did not tour this chateau, maybe we should have but we were headed to Château d'Azay-le-Rideau and Château de Villandry and were worried about château overload. We headed up the Loire and then turned off to follow L’Indre river.

We came upon Chateau de L'Islette (N47.26754° E0.43426°) and stopped for a quick walk through the grounds. This privately owned chateau favorably impressed us and is worth a visit.

Next on to Azay-le-Rideau Chateau (N47.25902° E0.46574°) which unfortunately was undergoing renovations and large sections were closed off and hidden under tarps. We had a quick lunch in Azay-le-Rideau, then up and over high ground and into Le Cher river valley near Villandry.

We stopped at the Villandry tourist information office and they directed us to Confluence Camping just up river in Savonnieres. We debated getting a hotel since the skies looked ominous, but the tourist office assured us there was zero chance of rain. We headed to the campground and set up the tent. Five minutes after the tent was up, it proceeded to pour rain on us for two hours.  Once the down pour stopped we walked into Savonnieres where we found only one restaurant open.  Although the entrance looked a little sketchy, we had a surprisingly good dinner at Le Saponaire (N47.34819° E0.54900°). The set dinner menu was excellent and very reasonable priced.
